so tell me again, what's this thing you're doing?
We are participating in the Mongol Rally, a 10,000 mile drive from England to Ulaanbaatar for charity. On July 14th we will roll out of Bodiam Castle with approximately 275 other ralliers, heading east over some of the world's most remote and unforgiving terrain.
This isn't a conventional rally. There is no support on the road. There are no comfy hotels to sleep in, and no one will be preparing our meals at designated rest stops. When we get into trouble there's no one we can call. When we break down, AAA won't be there for us. When we get stuck for 31 hours at the border between Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, we're on our own.
Even though there's no route, there is a schedule. Kind of. The goal is to be in Ulaanbaatar by August 23rd. But even that is a rough estimate. The last finisher in the 2012 Rally finished on October 22nd, exactly 100 days after he left London.
So that's basically it. A few thousand miles of dirt tracks, a sense of adventure, and a desire to explore. And maybe a map.
