Of course the Mongol Rally is about more than just an adventure; it's about saving the world. Or at least as much of it as we can. As you can see in the image above, the Adventurists have raised over £3.7million for charity since they've started. Out of that total, the Mongol Rally alone has raised over £1.9million for charity.
Do you want to know the best part about those statistics? They're too low. First of all, those are the official numbers as of November 23rd, 2011, which means more events have taken place and much more money has been raised. Secondly, teams almost always raise more money than the minimum required by the Adventurists, and in the early years all those excess donations weren't recorded. Long story short is that the Adventurists really are making the world a better place.

who are you giving money to?
The Mongol Rally donations are really quite simple: Every team must raise at least £1000 for charity. Every year there's an official charity, and each team must raise at least £500 for the official charity. The money beyond that can be donated to any charity of the team's choosing.
The official charity for the Mongol Rally in 2013 is Cool Earth. Cool Earth is an organization in the Amazon that is working to protect the rainforest; they do this by actually working with local rainforest communities. They spend their efforts to do the most good, by only protecting rainforest that's in imminent danger of being cut down, and by protecting rainforest areas that then serve as a protective barrier for even larger areas of rainforest beyond.
The Adventurists host events all over the globe, and all of the Adventurists' good work goes to help this great organization.

and who else?
Cool Earth is a very important organization, but they're located a little far from Mongolia. Since the purpose of our adventure is to get to Mongolia, we also want to help out someone on the ground at our destination.
The Lotus Children's Centre is an organization in Ulaanbaatar that cares for children by providing the basic human rights of food, shelter, and education. Lotus was founded in 1993, and just started by providing the basics needed to survival. However, education is also a requirement in today's world, and Lotus developed their own kindergarten and primary school to give the children an educational foundation. Furthermore, Lotus has provided vocational training and increased revenue streams by opening the Ananda Cafe, serving vegetarian cuisine, and the Lotus Guesthouse, housing travelers passing through Ulaanbaatar.
In 2012 Lotus was the official charity of the Mongol Rally. Lotus has a previous relationship with the Mongol Rally, as well has a history of doing good work. Team Turnagain is proud to name the Lotus Children's Centre as our charity.

how much are giving them?
The answer to that question depends on you. We are going to give the Lotus Children's Centre as much money as we can. The more donations and sponsorships that we receive, the more money we will pass along. Unfortunately we do need to cover minimum expenses on the trip (such as gas and visas), but every penny we raise above expenses will go straight to the children.
Team Turnagain thanks you for your support, as do Cool Earth and the Lotus Children's Centre!
