so who the heck are you guys, anyway?
Team Turnagain consists of Chase Berenson and Charla Hughes. We are both adventurers and travelers, and the Mongol Rally is the perfect experience for us.
Chase has been living in Alaska for the past five years. He spends his summers working for an airline with a fleet of skiplanes that flies mountain climber and expedition support in the Alaska Range, and he spends his winters working for a ski resort and snowboarding all the time. In his spare time he is most often hiking, backpacking, and camping..
Charla just completed her Masters Degree from Florida State University. Before that she had spent three years living in Southeast Asia, spending the school years teaching English in Thailand and South Korea and spending the summers diving as a PADI Divemaster in Indonesia and Thailand. In her spare time she kayaks and explores the beaches, rivers, and springs of North Florida.
We are the perfect people to tackle an adventure such as this. Both of us are experience travelers, so the cultural and language differences encountered along the trip won't be insurmountable barriers. Furthermore, we're both experienced long-distance drivers; in 2011 Chase spent 76 days driving solo around North America (from Alaska to Baja California to Florida to Maine and back through Canada to Alaska). In 2012, both of us spent 23-days driving from Talkeetna, Alaska, to Tallahassee, Florida, camping on the side of the road almost every night. We know that we can spend a extended periods of time stuck in a fast-moving metal box with each other without going crazy, and we know that we have passed the test for this adventure.
